Rose Bowl

The Rose Bowl, Hampshire

Now called the Ageas Bowl this is the home of Hampshire Cricket as well as being a major events venue.

Our initial brief was to design a distinctive and exciting entrance area to be used for gathering, collecting tickets on event days, entertainment, advertising, publicity, and information displays. Our scheme not only upgrades the appearance of this part of the site but provides a new setting where commercial activities can take place.

The basic spatial structure is created by a continuous route from the car and coach park to the entrance through a series of functional open spaces. Planting is also very important in integrating the scheme into the site. Rolling grass, hanging garden and ornamental planting are combined with the new wave landform, steep slopes and footpaths. This association also explores the harmonious combination of hard and soft landscape.

Following on from this initial brief we were commissioned to produce designs for the external entrance area to the hotel, along with several terrace gardens at higher levels. These gardens were designed to provide a variety of experiences for those using the hotel’s conference and restaurant facilities. The scheme had to be designed within the tight constraints dictated by the building roof construction, particularly with regard to the planted areas.
